Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management (ISBA)

Topic outline

  • Programme Details

The Level 5 Award in Leadership & Management (course code: 475) has been developed specifically for middle leaders in the Independent school sector (Independent Schools Bursars Association members only) that have some experience of leading teams.  This 22-week programme has been designed to expand on these leadership skills, and focuses on enhancing knowledge in Personal Effectiveness and Managing Teams.

The Level 5 Award will help participants to:

    • Consider the key concepts that contribute to personal effectiveness
    • Be able to evaluate their ability to lead others
    • Understand the skills and behaviours of an effective coach or mentor
    • Understand the principles of effective coaching and mentoring within a school and how to evaluate benefits
    • Programme Structure

The programme, available only to ISBA (Independent Schools Bursars Association) members, is delivered through a blended learning approach which begins with a one day face-to-face workshop. The remainder of the programme is online which allows flexibility to study at a time and pace that best suits as key dates and deadlines are clearly signposted at the beginning of the programme.

There are a series of tasks to complete throughout the online materials which will help to stimulate thinking of the subject matter and encourage engagement with appropriate concepts and techniques with regards to leading a team, coaching and mentoring.

The programme is completed by the submission of a work based assignment.  Support is provided throughout the programme by an experienced facilitator. The facilitator will also  lead a WebEx conferencing session per module which will focus on the assignment requirements.
