Level 4 Award in Leadership and Management (ISBA)

Topic outline

  • Programme Details

The Level 4 Award in Leadership & Management (course code: 465) has been developed specifically for support staff in the Independent schools sector (Independent Schools Bursars Association members only) to help develop the skills needed to lead as a middle leader.

This 22-week programme will enhance leadership, management and administrative skills as well as provide an opportunity to network with others who are in a similar position.

The Level 4 Award will help participants to:

    • Understand how to evaluate professional skills and impact on the workplace
    • Understand how to develop leadership styles and effectiveness
    • Understand the factors that may affect performance and motivation in the workplace
    • Be able to propose improvements in the effectiveness of team working in a school setting
    • Programme Structure

The programme, available only to ISBA (Independent Schools Bursars Association) members, is delivered through a blended learning approach which begins with a one day face-to-face workshop. The remainder of the programme is online which allows the flexibility to study at a time and pace that best suits the participants as key dates and deadlines are clearly signposted at the beginning of the programme.

Online studies begin with a diagnostic and this is followed by a series of tasks to stimulate thinking of the subject matter and encourage engagement with appropriate concepts and techniques.  Support is provided throughout the programme by an experienced facilitator from the independent sector and the programme will end by completing a work-based assignment.

In the UK all qualifications fit into one of nine levels and the Qualifications & Credit Framework sets out the level of qualification.  This level 4 qualification is the same level as a first year of an undergraduate degree course.

There are no eligibility criteria or pre-course requirements.
